About Us

NFS was established in 1960 as a FBO at National Airport located in the North end of Toledo. Basic services included standard FBO services and flight training.

This was the first year they started working on engines. Oddly enough, it was a hot section on a PT-6 engine.

In 1969 they moved to a new location at Toledo Express Airport located in Swanton, Ohio. Services included sales of Beechcraft and Twin Commander aircraft, aircraft maintenance, charter services, and flight training as well as FBO line services.

It was this year that the company was acquired by Tom Wiles who flew the charters and sold the aircraft.

NFS became a Rockwell Commander Dealer and a Twin Commander Service Center.

NFS became a Gulfstream Commander Service Center after Gulfstream purchased the company from Rockwell.

Began overhauls and repairs on Garrett (Honeywell) TPE331 engines.

Established a NFS turbine shop in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

After another ownership change from Gulfstream to Twin Commander, NFS becomes a Twin Commander Service Center.

Established National Flight Sales Corporation in Tampa, Florida.

Became a Twin Commander 10T and Grand Renaissance Service Center and opened an engine shop in San Antonio, TX.

Relocated their component shop to the Eber Road facility.

Opened a full MRO facility in Lakeland, Florida at the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport.

Named Honeywell Heavy Authorized Service Center and Accessory Overhaul Center.

Completed 4,500 major TPE331 inspections.

NFS Celebrates their 50th Anniversary. Honeywell authorizes NFS to repair and overhaul TPE331-14/15 engines. NFS adopts Two Year Warranty on Workmanship.

Moved and expanded the component shop to a newer and larger facility at Commerce Rd.

Started construction on a new engine facility in New Braunfels, TX. This facility will replace the San Antonio shop.

Grand opening of the New Braunfels engine shop. NFS adopts Five Year Warranty on Workmanship.

NFS starts major work on helicopters.

New Ownership, Herb Harvey buys NFS. NFS adopts Life-Time Warranty on Workmanship.

Honeywell awards NFS BGA Channel Partner of the Year and Service Center / MRO Channel Partner of the Year.

NFS survives COVID 19 without lay-offs, pay cuts, etc… Company remains strong.

Honeywell awards NFS the exclusive 5 to10T conversion service, world-wide. Honeywell appoints NFS as a HTF7000 Line Maintenance Service Center.

As of October 31, 2023, National Flight, one of the region’s premier Fixed Base Operators (FBO), announced the closure of its FBO facility. This strategic move is intended to amplify the company’s commitment to providing best-in-class aviation services and further consolidating its position in the aviation industry.

National Flight Services adds to their extensive capabilities list by adding helicopter repair and maintenance as well as avionics services!

After years of quality workmanship and expertise in the TPE331 turboprop engine business National Flight Services has built a large and loyal customer base who are looking for other services. This is the mission NFS wants to take, while adding to the already extensive capabilities list. Prior to ownership as manager of the Helicopter Division for NFS, Herb started from scratch and built a formidable business with helicopter repair in less than two years. To compliment the helicopter work he built and expanded an avionics department who has several teams that travel the U.S. doing troubleshooting and installs. NFS now has major helicopter fleet operators scheduling business.

After 64 years of serving the aviation industry, National Flight Services, Inc. is taking action to ensure it continues another 64 years under the ownership of Herb Harvey, the new President of National Flight Services . His passion to be successful and his dedication to National Flight Services employees is creating an exciting environment within NFS.
